Repair or Replace? An Honest Cost Guide
How to judge whether a pair is worth the investment.
The question is simple: is the upper sound? If the leather body, welt and lining are intact, repair is almost always the better value — a resole typically costs a fraction of a comparable new pair.
Replace when the upper is cracked through the flex line, the welt has rotted, or the shoe was cemented construction with a foam midsole that has compressed. Those are structural failures, not wear.
We will always tell you at drop-off if a repair is not worth your money. Sending someone home with an honest no is how we have kept customers in McKinney for years.
When to bring it to us instead
Home care handles maintenance. Structural problems — worn welts, split seams, collapsed heel counters, set-in stains — need a bench, tools and matched materials. If you are unsure which side of that line your pair falls on, send a photo or bring it by and we will tell you straight.
